Built by Daewoo in Korea, the new G3 isn't going to light
your hair on fire with excitement, but it is an affordable, roomy
subcompact. We like the hatchback's practicality and looks.
The near-twin, front-drive Chevrolet Cobalt and Pontiac G5 are
welcome in the compact-coupe market, where choices are scarce. The G5
uses Cobalt underpinnings but offers somewhat snappier styling. These
are decent cars, but the Honda Civic is nicer inside and more fun to
drive.
The G6 rides on GM's rigid Epsilon platform, but newer siblings such
as the Saturn Aura and Chevy Malibu are better. The G6 still trails in
refinement and perceived quality, finishing last in a five-car
comparison test where we liked the Volkswagen Jetta GLI and Honda Accord
much better.
From GM's Holden subsidiary in Australia: a new rear-drive sedan with
Euro looks and handling and Yankee proportions. Fitted with a V-6 or
one of two V-8s (GT's V-8 can operate on four cylinders), the G8 is
spacious, well-built, value priced, and a better driver than the Dodge
Charger.
Gorgeous styling and a solid chassis make the base model a worthy
sports car, despite its gruff four-cylinder and cheap interior. The
quick GXP represents a heck of a performance buy, and a supple ride and
loyal tracking make both terrific long-distance cruisers, but pack
light.

Despite the Vibe's sporty appearance, it's essentially a small-scale
minivan minus the sliding doors. Its utility index is relatively high,
but fun is conspicuous by its absence. Like the previous Vibe, this new
version shares its architecture and powertrains with the Toyota Matrix.
